A local shoemaker, Gradimir Antić, brought the town its first ball and gathered a side to play with it, founding what became Surdulički sportski klub in 1926. War broke the club apart during the occupation, and what came back afterwards changed shape more than once — rebuilt in 1946 as FK Polet, renamed FK Hidrovlasina in 1950, then merged that same July with FK Molidben of Belo Polje to take the name it still carries, Radnik. A second merger, in 2008, brought in FK Železničar of Vranjska Banja, whose place in the Serbian League East passed to Radnik along with it.

For most of that history the club sat in the lower divisions, known locally as the Surduličani and playing in blue and white at the Gradski stadion, now sponsored as the Efbet Stadium and holding 3,312 after work done in 2015. Its best league finish, sixth, came in 2020/21, a season that also carried it to a Serbian Cup semi-final.

None of that carries the weight of the fixture against Napredak Kruševac.
