Russia U15 to Play Under Flag and Anthem at FIFA Event

Nasr El-Din Abbas, known by his nickname Jaxa, remains the leading scorer in Sudan's history with 27 goals, and it was his form in 1970 that carried the Falcons of Jediane to the only Africa Cup of Nations title the country has won, a 1–0 final victory over Ethiopia. That tournament sits alongside the memory of Mustafa Azhari, the captain of that early era who helped bring the Confederation of African Football into being when Sudan joined as a founding member in 1957, a year after independence allowed the national team to step out from under the Egyptian Football Association's administration. The team's first match, a 5–1 win over Ethiopia on 13 May 1956, opened a run that FIFA recognised two years before independence even arrived, Sudan having joined the governing body already in 1948.
Since then the honours have come in smaller measures: third-place finishes at the African Nations Championship in 2011 and 2018, and three CECAFA Cup titles, in 1980, 2006 and 2007. In the modern squad, Haitham Mustafa built the record for most caps, while Salah Nemer has worn the captain's armband through a long stretch of that period.
The team has not always been able to play at home. A FIFA suspension over government interference shut the association out in July 2017, lifted only before the 2019 revolution, and the civil war that broke out in April 2023 pushed the Sudan Football Association out of Khartoum to Port Sudan, forcing the Falcons to stage home fixtures on foreign soil.
Their rivalry with Egypt runs deepest. The younger rivalry, with South Sudan, carries the weight of the 2011 separation and the politics that followed it.
