Yacoub El Mansour

The Yacoub El Mansour district of Rabat gave the club its name and its purpose: a neighbourhood side formed on 17 July 1989. For most of that history USYM stayed well outside the conversation about Moroccan football's top table, working through the lower divisions with a National 1 title in 2003–04 that took decades to repeat.

The repeat came in 2023–24, and this time it did not stop there. Under Mehdi El Jabri, in charge since 2017 and committed throughout to bringing through young players rather than buying a way up, USYM carried that momentum into Botola Pro 2 and finished the following season as runners-up — enough to send the club into the Botola Pro for the first time since it was founded. The promotion reached well beyond Rabat: Zlatan Ibrahimović sent his congratulations.

Top-flight football now means a local rival on the fixture list. Matches against FUS Rabat are billed as the Derby de la capitale, and USYM arrives at it as the newly promoted side against a club that has long since established itself there.

The club plays out of the Stade Yacoub El Mansour, known locally as Stade El Sor, which holds 2,000 to 3,000.
