The Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament is the premier first-class domestic cricket competition in Afghanistan, organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). The International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded it first-class status in February 2017, effective from the 2017–18 season. This designation marks the top tier of the nation’s domestic cricket pyramid, with the Mirwais Nika Provincial 3-Day Tournament acting as the feeder competition.
The tournament serves as a crucial development platform, designed to prepare players for Test cricket. It emphasizes endurance and technique over four days, distinguishing it from the franchise-based Shpageeza Cricket League (T20) and the List-A Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament. The season structure consists of a double round-robin league followed by a final. There is no formal promotion or relegation; teams are selected by the ACB.
In 2023, the format shifted to a franchise model with four teams: Hindukush Strikers, Mah-e-Par Stars, Maiwand Champions, and Pamir Legends. Mis Ainak Region holds the record for most titles with four wins (2011, 2012, 2014–15, 2015–16). The current champion is Maiwand Champions, who won the 2025 edition. The tournament has undergone name changes due to sponsorship, including the Alokozay Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament.
It is distinct from other Afghan competitions by its first-class status, regional/franchise structure focused on Test preparation, and lack of overseas player involvement typical of T20 leagues. The competition continues to evolve, reflecting the growing importance of cricket in the country. The ACB selects teams based on performance and potential, ensuring a competitive environment for emerging talent. The tournament's focus on longer formats helps players develop the skills necessary for international Test cricket. This approach sets it apart from shorter, more commercial leagues, prioritizing player development over immediate entertainment value.
