Australia Women in England 2023/24

The Women's Ashes is the premier bilateral cricket series contested between the national teams of Australia and England. First played in the 1934–35 season, it is the oldest rivalry in women's cricket. The term 'Ashes' was not officially used until 1998, when physical trophy containing ashes from a burnt bat and a constitution was created. Prior to that, the series was played for the title only.

Since 2013, the contest has been a multi-format event comprising one Test match, three One Day Internationals (ODIs), and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). The winner is determined by a points system: a Test win is worth 4 points, while ODI and T20 victories are worth 2 points. If points are level, the winner of the Test match is declared the Ashes winner. This structure replaced the previous rule where the holders retained the trophy in a drawn series. The series is biennial, alternating hosts between Australia and England.

Australia is the dominant force, having held the Ashes continuously since 2015. In the 2024–25 series, played in Australia, Australia achieved a historic 16–0 whitewash, the first time a team has won the multi-format series with a perfect score. England won the first series in 1934–35 and has won subsequent series in 1937–38, 1951, 1957–58, 1973–74, 1975, 1978, 1981, 1984, 1988, 1990–91, 1993, 1998, 2001, 2006, and 2023.

The rivalry is distinct from domestic leagues as it involves only two national teams. There is no promotion or relegation associated with the series. The first ODI was played in 1973 and the first T20I in 2005.
