Bangladesh Cricket League One-Day 2021/22

The Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) One-Day is a domestic limited-overs cricket competition organised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). It operates as the second tier of the national domestic structure, sitting below the first-class National Cricket League (NCL). The tournament features four permanent zonal teams: Central Zone, South Zone, East Zone, and North Zone. Unlike franchise-based T20 competitions, this event relies on regional representation rather than city-based clubs.

The competition format has evolved over time. While the BCL primarily functions as a first-class tournament, the One-Day component utilises a league structure to determine the champion. The BCL serves as a developmental pathway, providing players with experience in longer formats or high-level limited-overs cricket before they potentially move to the NCL or the national team. The teams are zonal entities, and player selection is based on this regional affiliation rather than performance-based promotion from lower tiers.

South Zone is the most successful team in the BCL’s history, having won the title multiple times across various seasons. They secured victories in 2013–14, 2014–15, 2017–18, 2018–19, and 2019–20. More recently, East Zone claimed its maiden first-class title in the 2023–24 season. The 2024–25 season was not held. The BCL differs from the Bangladesh Premier League, now rebranded as the Bangladesh T20 League, which features city-based teams such as Comilla Victorians and Dhaka Dynamites. The BCL focuses on increasing the volume of first-class and List A matches for domestic players.

The BCL is distinct from the NCL, which is division-based and serves as the top-tier first-class competition. The BCL acts as a secondary platform for player development. The South Zone’s dominance highlights the historical strength of that particular region within the domestic setup. The competition continues to provide a structured environment for cricketers to progress through the ranks.
