The Ghazi Amanullah Khan Regional One Day Tournament serves as the premier domestic List A cricket competition in Afghanistan. Organized by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), the tournament occupies a specific tier within the national pyramid, positioned below the first-class Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament and above the Green Afghanistan One Day Cup. It was established in 2017, a year that saw the ACB grant List A status to its domestic matches. The competition takes its name from Ghazi Amanullah Khan, a former King of Afghanistan.
Match duration is fixed at 50 overs per side. The structural approach varies by season. The 2024 edition adopted a franchise model, featuring four teams: Hindukush Strikers, Mah-e-Par Stars, Maiwand Champions, and Pamir Legends. These sides contest a double round-robin schedule before meeting in a final. Under this format, Hindukush Strikers secured the title in 2024.
Historically, the tournament utilised eight regional entities. Mis Ainak Region holds the record for success, having won the competition four times. Boost Region claimed victories in 2018 and 2023, while Spin Ghar Region triumphed in 2017 and 2026. The tournament does not operate a formal promotion or relegation system between it and lower-tier provincial leagues; participating teams remain fixed regional entities or selected franchises.
The competition functions as a distinct pathway for player development. While the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-day Tournament focuses on Test preparation, this One Day event provides structure for ODI and T20I readiness. Both tournaments feature similar regional frameworks but cater to different national team selection needs. The 2025 season returned to a regional format with five teams, with Mis Ainak Region retaining the current holder status.
