About

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League is a professional franchise Twenty20 cricket competition in the West Indies, organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI). Launched in 2022, the tournament operates as a high-profile commercial product distinct from the traditional regional domestic structure known as the Women’s Twenty20 Blaze. While the Blaze features teams representing regional associations, this league is defined by its franchise model, with teams owned by the entities that operate the men’s Caribbean Premier League.

The competition currently features four franchises: Trinbago Knight Riders Women, Guyana Amazon Warriors Women, Barbados Royals Women, and Jamaica Empress Women. The format has evolved from a double round-robin in its inaugural 2022 edition to a single round-robin group stage in subsequent years. Under this structure, each team plays every other side once, with the top three advancing to the playoffs. The highest-ranked team receives a bye to the final, while the second and third-placed teams contest a playoff match to determine the other finalist.

Commercial stability is provided through official sponsorship by the Massy Group, which grants the tournament its full title. Matches are typically staged as a festival at a single venue, such as Kensington Oval in Barbados or Providence Stadium in Guyana. The league is designed to attract international stars alongside regional talent, operating in parallel with the association-based leagues without promotion or relegation between the two systems.

In terms of success, Barbados Royals Women have established themselves as the dominant force, securing the title in 2023, 2024, and 2025. They defeated Guyana Amazon Warriors Women in the 2025 final to complete a three-peat. Trinbago Knight Riders Women claimed the inaugural championship in 2022. The 2026 season remains ongoing as of September, with the final scheduled for later in the month.
