That damage shut the club down entirely.
The Knights, as they are known, came closest to the top of Slovak hockey in 2006–07, when the Slovak 1. Liga title sent them up to the Extraliga for the first time. They lasted two seasons there, finishing ninth and then twelfth, before a 4:1 defeat in the relegation series against HK Spišská Nová Ves sent them back down. Afterwards the club settled into life as a farm side for HK Poprad, the bigger neighbour that, along with MHK Dolný Kubín, makes up its closest regional rivalry.
The rebuilding after 2018 brought the team back under its old MHK Kežmarok name.
