Modra

Four men from the town — Ján Lauda, Ján Šimonovič, Jozef Zápražný and Stanislav Škarčák — put the club together in 1954. What gave it one came in 1977, when the club was rebuilt around youth education, a decision that led to a School Sports Center opening in 1983 and, within a dozen years, a national title for the younger age group in 1995.

The senior side took far longer to arrive anywhere. It was not until the 2011–12 season that Modra won the second-tier league and earned promotion to the Extraliga, where it has stayed ever since. A Quarter-Final run in 2021–22 remains the high point; more often the story has been survival, and the men's team has gone through relegation playoffs in three straight seasons up to 2024–25.

The players go by Modranci, the same word used for anyone from the town, and they play in yellow, black and green in a school sports hall that holds 400. There is a fixture that matters locally: against HC Záhoráci from the Záhorie region, decided by two goals when the sides met in December 2024. Katarína Dubajová and Juraj Nižnan, both capped for Slovakia, carried the club's name into the national team during their careers.
