Mateusz Lenckowski came up through the youth ranks at Tczew before moving on to SMS Kwidzyn and a call-up to the Polish junior national side, alongside Marcel Skierka and Jakub Drajewski.

The women's section, known these days as Energa Sambor Tczew, has carried the club's name furthest. In 2025 it won Group A of the I Liga and finished runner-up in the Turniej Mistrzyń. The men's team has had its own taste of that climb: in 2012 it beat SPR Olkusz in the promotion play-offs to reach the Superliga, the top flight, though it now plays in the I Liga Mężczyzn.

Matches against Wybrzeże Gdańsk and GTPR Gdynia carry a separate weight locally, billed as the Derby Pomorza, a fixture that draws on the region rather than on the standings.

Both teams play out of the Hala Sportowa on ulica Królowej Marysieńki, a hall shared with the II Liceum Ogólnokształcące and run by the county sports centre — a school gym as much as an arena, which is where a handball section, founded in 1957 as one of the first branches of the wider Sambor sports club, still trains and plays.
