Zaglebie Sosnowiec

Five stars sit on the red-and-green jersey of KH Zagłębie Sosnowiec, one for each Polish Championship the club took between 1980 and 1985. The team that won them traced back to a hockey section founded inside the multi-sport club Unia Sosnowiec in November 1933, and by the time the titles came the section had already changed its name half a dozen times — Stal Sosnowiec in the postwar years, then Zagłębie once the Communist-era sports federations were reshuffled in 1962. Wiesław Jobczyk finished top scorer four times during that stretch and remains the name attached to the era. The club's history since has been one of repeated collapse and restart rather than steady decline. The hockey section went bankrupt and was dissolved in 1992, came back in 1998 under a new sponsor's name, and over the following decade was renamed again as backers changed — Pol-Aqua, then a joint-stock company that itself went under in 2013. A new club, HK Zagłębie Sosnowiec, picked up the identity in 2014 and now plays as KH Zagłębie Sosnowiec, still known locally as Sosnowiczanie. The old local rivalry with GKS Katowice, framed in the region as Hanysy against Gorole, has outlasted every one of those name changes. Home games are now played at the Nowy Stadion Zimowy, opened in 2023 with room for 2,545 spectators, a considerable upgrade on what the club had before. Zagłębie currently competes in the Polish Hockey League, working from a much smaller budget than the one that produced the five stars still worn on the crest.
