CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina 2025/26

The CONMEBOL Libertadores Femenina, officially the Copa Libertadores Femenina, stands as the premier annual women’s club football competition in South America. Organized by CONMEBOL, it sits at the top of the continental pyramid, serving as the sole club competition for women on the continent.

Founded in 2009, the tournament began its inaugural edition in Brazil later that year. Qualification relies on domestic league performance, with national champions typically securing berths alongside additional spots for associations with strong historical records. The current structure features sixteen teams split into four groups of four, competing in a single round-robin format at centralized venues. The top two sides from each group progress to single-match knockout quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final.

Corinthians holds the record for the most titles with six victories, including the most recent crown in 2025. São Paulo follows with three wins. The competition also marks a significant milestone in South American football history: since 2019, clubs participating in the men’s Copa Libertadores have been mandated to field women’s teams.

While the men’s and women’s tournaments share the same prestigious name, they remain distinct entities with separate qualification pathways and formats. The women’s edition has produced notable moments beyond Brazil, such as Colo-Colo’s first non-Brazilian victory in 2012. No promotion or relegation exists within the continental structure, ensuring stability for participating clubs each season.

The tournament continues to grow in stature, reflecting the increasing importance of women’s football across South America. With teams like Olimpia Women, Caracas, Internacional Women, and others competing annually, the competition provides a vital platform for showcasing talent on the continental stage.
