About
Copa do Brasil Sub-17 is the official national youth knockout competition for under-17 players in Brazil, run by the Confederação Brasileira de Futebol (CBF). The tournament began in 2013, following a previous iteration that ran between 2008 and 2012 under the Espírito Santo Football Federation (FES) and holds no official recognition in the current lineage.
Thirty-two clubs enter the fray each year. Twenty-seven spots go to the champions of Brazil’s state championships. Five additional places are allocated to the runners-up from the five states with the highest standing in the CBF National Federation Ranking, typically São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Paraná. The structure is purely eliminatory.
Early stages may feature single-leg ties, particularly for teams from lower-ranked federations. From the Round of 32 onwards, every round proceeds over two legs. Home and away fixtures determine progression, with penalty kicks settling any aggregate draws after extra time. The away goals rule does not apply.
The competition does not feed into the senior league pyramid, nor does it involve promotion or relegation. However, the victor earns a place in the Supercopa do Brasil Sub-17, where they contest against the champion of the parallel Campeonato Brasileiro Sub-17. That league operates differently, utilising a group stage before moving to knockout phases.
Palmeiras stands as the most successful side in the competition's history, claiming the title four times. São Paulo has won it twice, as has Flamengo. Vasco da Gama took the crown in 2025 after beating Bahia on penalties, while Fluminense secured the 2024 edition. São Paulo also won the inaugural 2013 final, defeating Flamengo 5-1 on aggregate.
