The Supercupa României is an annual one-match football competition organized by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF). Founded in 1994, the fixture serves as the curtain-raiser for the new season, typically played in July. It determines a winner through a single game between the champions of the previous season’s Liga I and the victors of the Cupa României. The format includes a specific provision for scenarios where one club secures both titles; in such cases, the Liga I runner-up replaces the cup winner as the opponent. This rule came into effect in 2009. Before that period, the trophy was not awarded in years where a double was achieved, specifically in 1996, 1997, 2000, 2004, and 2008. The competition is recognized as the third most important domestic trophy in Romania, ranking below the league championship and the national cup. Unlike league play or multi-stage tournaments, it is a single fixture that does not confer European qualification spots. FCSB is the most successful club with eight titles, followed by CFR Cluj and Rapid București, each with four titles. Notable records include Rapid București’s 5–0 victory over Steaua in 1999, which remains the largest margin of victory in the competition's history. The current holder of the trophy is FCSB, who won the 2025 edition by defeating CFR Cluj 2–1.
