The visitors arrived fourth in the table with seven points from four games, while hosts Andranik sat in fourth place on the same tally. By then Olimpia had already played five matches, won four, and drawn once.
Andranik had looked dangerous on paper, coming off a 4:0 victory over Shirak II just days earlier. They had also beaten Ararat II 6:1 and Araqs Ararat 7:1 in their opening fixtures. To be fair, the recent results painted a picture of attacking intent, even if the 0:5 defeat to Shirak and 1:2 loss to Ararat tempered expectations.
Olimpia's form told a different story entirely. Three wins from their last three matches, including a 3:0 shutout against Sardarapat 2, suggested a side finding its rhythm.
