Boston River and Danubio shared the points in a goalless draw at Estadio Campeón del Olimpo on Thursday evening. The match, played under the Clausura format, finished 0-0 after ninety minutes of tight football. To be fair, neither side created enough clear-cut opportunities to break the deadlock.
And here's the thing — by then, the twenty-minute mark had already shown the pattern. Boston River held their shape defensively while Danubio controlled more possession but struggled to find penetration. The first yellow card came at the forty-second minute when M. Rivero was booked, a sign of the physical contest that developed.
The second half brought a flurry of changes. Danubio brought on John Kleber, E. Cabrera, and B. Tomatis together at the sixty-eighth minute, while Boston responded with A. Velazquez at seventy-one and F. Aristegui at seventy-four. Later, both sides made further substitutions, with Boston bringing on L. Vazquez and F. Munoa at eighty-two minutes.
The statistics tell a story of missed chances. Boston registered sixty-seven attacks with four corners but managed only one shot on target. Danubio had more possession and eighty-eight attacks, yet their three shots off target and single effort on target failed to find the net. Things came to a head in the final minutes, with M. Brasil and F. Bonfiglio both picking up yellow cards in stoppage time.
Now the standings matter. Boston River remain in twelfth place with thirty points from twenty-seven games, while Danubio sit fifteenth on twenty-four points. The draw extended Boston's recent run of mixed results — they had beaten Nacional 2-1 on August ninth but lost to Racing Club de Montevideo 0-1 before that. Danubio's form has been similarly inconsistent, with a 2-2 draw against Albion on August first following their 0-1 defeat to Cerro.
In the end, both sides left with a point, though neither could claim dominance. Boston's defensive resilience kept them in the game, while Danubio's attacking efforts never quite clicked. The result leaves both teams further from the top half than they might have hoped.
