Karabobo saw off Trujillanos 2-0 in the Clausura second stage at their home ground on Monday evening. The result keeps the hosts in eighth place while Trujillanos remain rooted to fourteenth, a gap of nineteen points between them in the table now.
D. Machis opened the scoring in the twenty-sixth minute, and the visitors never really recovered. By then he had already picked up a booking thirty-three minutes in, so the man who started strong found himself on the bench seventy-one minutes from the end, replaced by another of his own team.
Trujillanos were chasing shadows for long stretches. They managed seven key passes against Karabobo's twenty, and when they did find space it wasn't enough to test the goalkeeper. The visitors' keeper had to make seven saves, while Karabobo's man was called upon only twice.
The second half brought a late twist. J. Berios added the second goal in the eighty-sixth minute, and with that the match was effectively over. Trujillanos made three substitutions in the final ten minutes — M. Cova and L. Mosquera both came on at eighty-eight — but there was nothing left to change.
On the numbers, Karabobo dominated possession at sixty-five per cent and launched one hundred and forty-one attacks compared with eighty-seven. They created six big chances to the visitors' single one, and while nine shots found the target, only two of Trujillanos' efforts did the same.
The visitors had more tackles — twenty-eight to eleven — and more clearances, but that was a sign of survival rather than control. They were defending deep and hoping for a result they could not take. Karabobo simply kept the ball, moved it forward, and waited.
