Central Español drew 0-0 with Liverpool Montevideo in the seventh round of the Torneo Intermedio, part of the Primera Apertura. The match ended without a result despite a cancelled goal and two late dismissals. It was a game where neither side could find the breakthrough they needed.
By then the visitors had already taken control — not of the score, but of the tempo. Liverpool Montevideo held 52 per cent of possession and registered five shots on target against Central Español's four. And here's the thing: Central Español pressed higher with 91 attacks to their opponents' 87, but couldn't convert pressure into chances.
The turning point came at 39 minutes when F. Martinez had a goal cancelled by VAR. The incident shifted the mood, and Central Español tightened things up. K. Amaro received a red card at 45+2, leaving his side to defend with ten men for the remainder of the half.
Substitutions followed in the second period — F. Munoz, R. Machado, M. Montiel, K. Lewis, F. Martinez and R. Tarragona entered the field. To be fair, the game opened up after the break, but defensive discipline kept the scoreboard quiet. Two more red cards fell at 87 minutes when both A. Villoldo and F. Barcelo were sent off.
Central Español finished with five yellow cards and one red, while Liverpool Montevideo collected three yellows and two reds. The hosts had more attacks and throw-ins, the visitors more corners and free kicks. Shots off target favoured the visitors four to two, but on target the difference was marginal.
The draw leaves Central Español eighth on 27 points from 27 games, while Liverpool Montevideo remain fifth with 42 points. The gap between them is 15 points — not insurmountable, but substantial. By then both sides had shown they could hold their shape under pressure, even when reduced to ten men.
