HIK claimed a 3-0 win against Jaro at Bolt Arena on Sunday, securing three points in the Veikkausliiga regular season round 20. It was a straightforward affair for the hosts, who dominated from the opening whistle. The result leaves them firmly in the top half of the table.
The game opened with pace. Alfie Cicale scored in the fifth minute, and Mads Borchers added another nine minutes later. «and here's the thing», the visitors never really got their footing. I remember watching the clock hit twenty; the score was already two goals clear, and the mood had shifted.
Jaro tried to dig in, but the pressure told. Jesper Svenungsen Skau saw yellow at 48 minutes before Martin Kirilov extended the lead at 68. The substitutions started early. Mouhamed Gueye came on for HIK at 60 minutes, while Jaro brought on Jim Myrevik and Rudi Vikström at 62 to change the dynamic.
The second half became a exercise in management. Jaro implemented a mass substitution around the 72nd minute, bringing on Mentu, Borchers, Montano, and Sabriye. HIK responded with Teemu Pukki at 79. Oliver Kass Kawo and Adam Vidjeskog also collected yellow cards as the visitors ran out of legs.
The numbers didn't lie. HIK controlled 54 per cent of possession and fired 10 shots, five on target. Jaro managed just one shot on target from four attempts and created zero big chances. To be fair, they had some possession but nowhere to go with it.
HIK sit third with 22 points, keeping their European ambitions alive. Jaro remain 11th with 15 points, their recent form offering little comfort. The three-goal margin highlighted the gulf between the sides.
