Match Report

Sweeping Park Rangers lost 3-2 to Houston Dynamo II in their MLS Next Pro Group Stage clash on August 1st. The visitors took all three points despite going down to ten men for most of the second half after Barrett's dismissal. And here's the thing about this result — it doesn't tell you much about the game itself.

Sousa gave the home side an early lead in the 19th minute, and to be fair the Rangers were comfortable enough. But Barrett was shown two yellow cards within six minutes of each other before being sent off in the 24th minute. By then Dynamo II had been patient, waiting for the right moment.

Hines scored twice for the visitors, once in the 43rd and again in the 71st, but Rodriguez pulled one back for the Rangers in the 77th. Brummett converted a penalty in the 79th to seal the result. There is unrest in the dressing room after that penalty — not because it was missed, but because the Rangers let it get that far.

Rangers sit sixth on 20 points from 26 matches, while Dynamo II hold second place with 51 points. The visitors had won three straight before this drawless run, and they extended their lead at the top of the group.
