Isak's rapid double gives Iraola first Liverpool win

Aleksandr Isak scored twice inside the first nine minutes at Portman Road as Newcastle beat Ipswich Town 2-0.

Isak's first went through Kjell Scherpen's palms on six minutes, then the goalkeeper was caught out by a long ball and beaten by a low finish shortly after. Ipswich, who shipped five goals at Manchester United last week, never recovered.

Iraola had been held in his opening two league matches, a start that echoed his time at Bournemouth in 2023, when it took 10 games to win. This one arrived in his third.

Bradley Barcola made his debut off the bench for 26 minutes following his £123m move from Paris Saint-Germain, showing flashes of pace.

Isak's contribution mattered most. He managed four goals in 22 games and 1,033 minutes last season, overshadowed by fellow forward Alexander Isak, as Newcastle's campaign faltered. He had scored a hat-trick on his last visit to Portman Road, for Newcastle.

Ipswich had a grievance of their own: they felt Jérémy Jacquet should have seen a second yellow card for a tackle on Lewis Dobbin, Ipswich's centre-forward who has scored three goals since joining in August, but no card was shown.

If Isak has finally found his feet, Newcastle's attack starts to look considerably more dangerous with Barcola still to be worked into the side.
