UEFA Picks Munich and Barcelona for 2028 and 2029 Finals

UEFA's executive committee has confirmed the venues for the next two Champions League finals, meeting in Thessaloniki to award the 2027-28 final to Munich's Allianz Arena and the 2028-29 final to Camp Nou in Barcelona.

The same session settled the Super Cup fixture that opens each campaign. Amsterdam's Johan Cruyff Arena takes the 2027 edition, and Astana Arena in Kazakhstan gets the 2028 match — the first eurocup final of any kind to be staged in Astana. The Super Cup pits the reigning Champions League holders against the Europa League winners; this year's trophy went to Paris Saint-Germain.

Astana Arena opened in 2009 and holds 30,200. It is the home ground of both FC Astana and the Kazakhstan national team.

Munich will host a Champions League final for the third time. Chelsea beat Bayern there on penalties in 2012 after a 1-1 draw, and PSG thrashed Inter 5-0 on the same pitch in 2025. Camp Nou's turn in 2029 will also be its third final, following 1989 and 1999.

UEFA also fixed the other two finals for both seasons. The Europa League final goes to Bucharest in 2027-28 and Belgrade in 2028-29, while the Conference League final is set for Turin and then Budapest.

Awarding Astana a final fits a pattern of UEFA taking marquee fixtures beyond its traditional strongholds, and a smooth staging of the 2028 Super Cup there could put the city in the running for further finals down the line.
