About the player
Agustín Oliveros Cano came through the youth ranks at Racing de Sayago in Montevideo, making his first-team debut on 21 July 2018 against Peñarol. He went on to make 22 appearances for the club, scoring once, before Nacional took him on loan in February 2020, with the option to buy half his rights. At Nacional he became a regular in the back line, appearing 30 times and adding another goal, and picked up a league title in 2020 along with the Uruguayan Super Cup.
His move to Mexico came in June 2021, when Necaxa paid roughly 1.2 million dollars to complete the signing, split between Nacional and Racing de Sayago, with a further sell-on percentage agreed for both Uruguayan clubs. He signed a four-year deal and settled into the Necaxa side, wearing the number 3 shirt and reaching 22 appearances for the club by May 2022.
The uncapped run at international level was brief but notable: after being called up to the Uruguay squad in October 2020, Oliveros made his only appearance for La Celeste the following month, in a World Cup qualifier against Brazil that ended 0-2. He has not added to that single cap since.
