About the player
Alexis Peña came up through Pachuca's academy and made his professional debut in the Mexican Cup in August 2015 before breaking into the league side the following year. He was still on the books at Pachuca when the club won the CONCACAF Champions League in the 2016–17 campaign.
Peña returned to Necaxa on loan in 2022, and the move became permanent once the club exercised the option to sign him outright at the end of that season. Necaxa have since extended his contract through to 2028, tying him to the club for the long term.
International recognition followed later. Peña made his debut for Mexico in a friendly against Colombia in December 2023 and had earned two caps by the end of 2024. That year he was also picked for the Liga MX All-Star Game against the MLS All-Stars.
