About the player
Raúl Alejandro Martínez Ruiz came through Chivas's academy. His path took him to Tapatío, Chivas's reserve side.
Those Tapatío years brought silverware: the team won the Liga de Expansión MX in two different campaigns, with Martínez part of the squad both times. In between, he also got a run with the Chivas first team itself, a step up that most of his academy contemporaries never reach.
His stock rose enough to attract Mexico's youth national teams, where he featured for the under-17 side and scored once in three appearances, and later earned a single cap at under-19 level.
Martínez arrived at Necaxa as a free agent after his Chivas contract ended, closing the book on a formative stretch spent almost entirely within the Guadalajara club's structure. He continues at right-back, the position he has occupied since his academy days.
