Alejo Véliz

When Alejo Véliz moved from Rosario Central to Tottenham Hotspur on 8 August 2023, the fee was the biggest the Argentine club had ever taken: £17m fixed, plus $6m in bonuses and 10% of any future resale.

He had come to Rosario in 2019, after boyhood football in his own corner of Santa Fe — MCSD Gödeken from 2006, then Club Unión Deportiva y Cultural for a decade. He debuted for Central on 23 July 2021, became a fixture in the side in 2022/23, and was named among the substitutes in the Argentine Primera División team of the season for 2023.

England gave him far less. Eight appearances for the Tottenham first team brought a single goal, and in February 2024 he was loaned to Sevilla for the rest of 2023/24: six matches, no goals. The following August he joined Espanyol on a free loan through to the end of 2024/25, and the Spanish year went better — 27 matches in La Liga and two in the Copa del Rey, four goals in all.

With Argentina he played only at under-20 level, scoring three goals and taking part in the 2023 U-20 World Cup. No call-up followed to the senior squad or the under-23s.

On 26 June 2026 Tottenham reached agreement with Bahia of Brazil, the deal taking effect on 1 July. The Brazilian club paid €9m, roughly 56m reais, and signed him to a contract running until December 2031.
