About the player
He came through the Argeș Pitești academy between 2006 and 2013, left for Sporting Pitești, spent a season on loan at Atletic Bradu, and then began his senior career elsewhere — ten Liga II appearances for CS Balotești from August 2015, a short spell at Sporting Turnu Măgurele from February 2016, and fifteen games with one goal for Sepsi OSK Sfântu Gheorghe in the 2016–17 Liga II season.
The move that defined him was the one back home. In July 2017 he returned to Argeș Pitești on a free transfer, and he has not left since. More than 225 league appearances have followed, with at least two goals.
In June 2024 a Liga I club made him a last-minute offer. Tofan turned it down and signed a new contract at Pitești instead.
What is missing from his record is international football. Tofan has never been capped by Romania at senior or youth level, and no individual awards are attached to his name. Every transfer he has made was free or for an undisclosed fee, and all of his football has been played inside Romania. He remains an active member of the squad in the 2026–27 season, wearing number 2.
