About the player
Mario Tudose managed four goals in a Liga II season in the 2024–25 campaign that took Argeș Pitești up. The title and promotion came together, and Tudose went with them into Liga I, where he has since played a full season of league football.
He is a Pitești player twice over. Tudose came through the club's youth system until 2021, when SL Benfica paid €200,000 to take him to Lisbon. He spent two years there in the U17 and U19 sides, playing in the UEFA Youth League — Benfica's U19s won the 2021–22 edition — but never appeared for the senior team.
The return in July 2023 was unusual in its structure. Argeș paid €50,000 that November, and Benfica kept 50 per cent of Tudose's economic rights, meaning the Portuguese club would take half of whatever any future sale brings in.
His international record runs the length of the Romanian youth ladder: four caps at U16, five at U17, eleven at U18 with two goals, nine at U19 with two more, two at U20, and seven at U21 by the middle of 2026.
Some databases list him as a midfielder. He is a centre back, right-footed, and has played there throughout.
