Diego Coelho

Diego Coelho's collision with Colo-Colo goalkeeper Brayan Cortés in October 2022 has been a notable incident in his career. The forward, then playing for Curicó Unido, went into a challenge that left Cortés with a broken nose; the referee showed no card, and Cortés declined surgery so he could keep playing through the club's decisive matches, finishing them in a protective mask. Coelho called it a footballing dispute and said he had also been hurt in the same passage of play, taking a knock to the leg.

The Montevideo-born striker came up through Nacional's academy, returning there in 2016 after a loan spell at Fénix, and made his first-team debut in March 2017. His father, Fabián Coelho, played for Uruguay's national side, though Diego's own representative football stopped at youth level. A loan to Boston River in 2018–2019 produced 11 goals in 36 games.

He moved to Defensor Sporting in January 2020, then to Cerro in April 2021, where he finished as top scorer of Uruguay's Segunda División with 11 goals in 24 matches and was named to the team of the season. Nacional's Torneo Apertura title in 2018, along with two Torneo Intermedio wins, came while Coelho featured mostly from the bench.

Chile has been the setting for the rest of his career. Two seasons at Curicó Unido brought 19 goals in 63 appearances before a move to Cobreloa, where he finished as the club's leading scorer in the 2025 season. He signed for Audax Italiano as a free agent in December 2025, and by August 2026 had made 17 appearances for the club, scoring three goals.
