Enzo Gabriel Martínez Suárez

Two minutes into Gimnasia's home match against Independiente Rivadavia on 15 March 2026, Enzo Martínez rose to a corner and headed his side in front. In the 94th minute he turned the ball into his own net, and Gimnasia lost 2-3.

Martínez came through the youth system at Peñarol and made his first-team debut in 2018, the season the club won the Uruguayan title. A loan to Tondela in Portugal followed between 2020 and 2021, and in the summer of 2021 he joined Vélez Sarsfield as a free agent on an 18-month contract with an option to extend — one of the first foreign signings made under coach Mauricio Pellegrino.

Mexico came next. He moved to Querétaro at the start of 2022, then signed for Pachuca in January 2023. He returned to Uruguay late that year with Defensor Sporting, spent a few months there, and joined Liverpool de Montevideo in February 2024.

In September 2024 he crossed the River Plate again, signing for Gimnasia La Plata as a free agent. The move ran into trouble almost immediately: on 8 December 2024, against Talleres, his left kneecap locked on the turf with no opponent involved. He left the pitch in a splint and had surgery shortly afterwards.

He came back. In the 2025/26 Argentine Primera season he made more than 20 appearances for Gimnasia, scoring once and adding an assist against Sarmiento on 13 April 2026. He has never been capped by Uruguay at any level.
