In 2023, on loan from Fortaleza , Gustavo Coutinho scored the decisive goal against Guarani that carried the club into Série A, finishing the season among the division's leading scorers with 14 goals.
His route there was long. He came through the academy at Audax Rio from 2014 and then joined the youth set-up at Botafogo . In 2017 he moved to Portugal and made his senior debut for Atlético Clube Alcanenense on 26 March against Caldas SC , a 1-0 defeat; he made 15 appearances and scored once in the Campeonato de Portugal, the third tier.
