About the player
Everything on João Mendoza's record so far has happened inside one club. He has never signed for another senior side, never been the subject of a fee, and never had a former club listed against his name: his route into professional football ran from Deportivo Garcilaso's Sub-18 side straight into the first-team squad.
That step came in late 2024, when the club moved a group of its youth players up for the following campaign. Mendoza joined the senior set-up as a special invitee for the 2025 season. For 2026 he was formally included.
The playing time has come in small pieces. Through the 2026 season he has made a handful of appearances, most of them from the bench, and has yet to register a goal or an assist. There is little else on the sheet: no senior honours, no titles.
He was born in Abancay. Deportivo Garcilaso, based in Cusco, drew him into its academy system, and it is that academy — rather than any transfer market — that accounts for his presence in the squad list.
