About the player
Fifteen clubs in four countries — that is the shape of Jonathan Enrique Betancourt Mina's career so far. The Ecuadorian has played in Ecuador, Peru and Mexico, rarely staying anywhere longer than a season, and he arrived at FC Cajamarca.
He came through the academy at Barcelona SC in Guayaquil, and by 2013 he was in Portugal, registered with Porto's under-19 side and then the B team. He did not break through there. Two years later he was back in Ecuador with CS Norte América and Deportivo Azogues.
The best of his football came in his early twenties. At Aucas in 2016 he played 31 matches and scored twice; the move to LDU Quito the following year brought 40 appearances and six goals. Barcelona SC took him back on loan in 2018, and Universidad Católica held his registration through 2019 and 2020.
Querétaro signed him but sent him out on loan to Cimarrones de Sonora, then to Dorados de Sinaloa, and by 2022 he was home again at Delfín SC. The Peruvian spell that started in 2023 worked better: at Deportivo Garcilaso he became a regular, playing 31 matches and scoring three times in his first season there. Spells at La Unión and Leones del Norte followed in Ecuador.
He was capped by Ecuador at under-20 level, playing at the 2015 South American Championship in Uruguay and in qualifying for that year's World Cup. A senior call-up has not come. In the 2026 season he has 18 appearances and two goals.
