About the player
Ferro Carril Sud is the club that keeps reappearing in Juan Ignacio Barbieri's career. The forward from Olavarría left, came back, left again, either side of brief stints at Aldosivi and Estudiantes (Olavarría), before a loan to Central Córdoba. For years he was a lower-league player moving between Federal B and Federal C sides, a path that also took him to Defensores Unidos, Flandria and Acassuso.
The breakthrough came in 2024 at Deportivo Armenio. Barbieri played 43 matches and scored 25 goals. The following spring he was part of the squad that won the 2025 Copa Argentina, beating Argentinos Juniors on penalties in the final. He was involved throughout the run, scoring from the spot in the last-16 tie against Platense.
That form earned him a move into the top flight with Independiente Rivadavia, where he scored twice in his first ten league appearances. He has yet to score in his opening three league appearances for the club.
