About the player
The move that took Kanu from Rio to Salvador began as a loan that cost Bahia nothing. The centre-back arrived on 1 January 2023, and on 22 August that year the arrangement became permanent, with Bahia buying out his contract from Botafogo for a fee reported at around €2m. Botafogo retained 20% of the economic rights to any future sale.
Before that, there was only one club. Victor Hugo Soares dos Santos, born in Duque de Caxias in the state of Rio de Janeiro, came through Botafogo's academy and made his way into the professional game there. No other side appears on his record.
Then came April 2025. Kanu tore his calf muscle and his Achilles tendon, an injury that required surgery. He returned to training and to matchday squads in October 2025.
He is right-footed and plays in the middle of the defence, where his height is part of the job description.
