Lautaro Ariel Díaz

Diaz's career has run on the strength of a single result: the 2022 Copa Sudamericana final. Playing for Independiente del Valle against São Paulo, he was named man of the match as the Ecuadorian club won the title, the high point of a run that began years earlier and far from continental finals.

He started out at Estudiantes in Buenos Aires, but a loan to Villa Dálmine gave him his most productive domestic spell in Argentina before Independiente del Valle took him on loan and later made the move permanent. It was in Ecuador that his career found its shape, culminating in that Sudamericana run.

The Sudamericana medal opened the door to Brazil. Cruzeiro paid for the majority of his economic rights, though game time proved harder to come by there than it had in Ecuador. A loan to Santos followed, where he has worn the number 19 shirt and contributed four league goals. From there, another loan has taken him back to Argentina, to Racing Club, where he now wears the number 32.

Across his career in Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil, Diaz has made 141 league appearances and scored 18 goals — modest figures for a forward, but ones that include a final that decided a continental trophy.
