About the player
Leonardo Morales did not come up through a big club's academy. Two seasons at Atlético Paraná followed in the Primera B Nacional, then a move to Patronato in Argentina's top flight, where he never made it onto the pitch for a competitive match. It was at Santamarina that he finally established himself.
The move that shaped his career came in 2019, when coach Hernán Darío Ortiz brought him to Gimnasia y Esgrima in La Plata. Morales stayed six seasons, making 195 appearances and scoring 10 goals. A run of injuries in 2021 pushed him from right-back into the centre of defence, and from 2023 he wore the captain's armband. After a defeat to Rosario Central in August 2024, he publicly blamed a young teammate, Juan Cortasar, for the loss.
Morales joined Belgrano as a free agent in July 2025, signing through December 2027, and made his debut in a 3-0 win over Huracán. In June 2026, the championship medal was stolen from his home.
Morales has never been called up to the Argentina national team, nor has he collected individual honours or club records for appearances or goals.
