He made them across 34 league matches on loan at Ternana in 2025–2026, adding three goals of his own.

That earlier work was about scoring. At Vis Nova Giussano, his first senior club, he played 71 matches in Serie D between 2020 and 2022 and scored 11 goals. Varesina took him on a free transfer in July 2022, and over two seasons there he made 78 appearances, scored 18 and provided 12 assists.

Vis Pesaro moved him up to Serie C in July 2024, again without a fee, on a three-year contract running to June 2027. His first season in the division brought 33 league appearances in Group B, two goals and seven assists. The loan to Ternana followed in July 2025 and carried an obligation to buy under certain conditions; he returned to Vis Pesaro in June 2026.

The move to Ravenna came the following month, a permanent transfer from Vis Pesaro on a two-year deal with an option for a third year, which would run to 30 June 2028. He is projected to wear squad number 30 in 2026–2027. Every one of the major moves in his career so far — Giussano to Varesina, Varesina to Vis Pesaro, Vis Pesaro to Ravenna — has been made on a free transfer.

He was born in Milan and holds Italian citizenship alongside Chilean citizenship. His full registered name is Marcelo Orellana Cruz, Cruz being the second surname.
