About the player
Five goals in the 2024 Série A season made him Criciúma's leading scorer that year.
Known as Matheusinho, he came through at Atlético Mineiro, where he stayed from 2016 to 2020. The early honours arrived quickly: the Minas Gerais state championship in 2016, then the Série B title in 2017. Brazil called him up at youth level in that same period, three matches for the under-17s in 2015 and two for the under-20s across 2016 and 2017, without a goal in either.
His move abroad in 2020 was unusual in its structure. Beitar Jerusalem bought 70 per cent of his economic rights for a sum reported at more than three million reais, and he spent the following seasons in Israel, including a loan spell at Ashdod in 2021–22.
Portugal followed in January 2025, when Santa Clara signed him. A loan took him back to Brazil with Sport Recife later in 2025, where he played 25 matches and scored twice, and in January 2026 Santa Clara sent him on loan again, this time to Ceará.
That spell ended in July 2026, when he left Ceará for Atlético Goianiense.
