About the player
In the 2023–24 Serie A season he finished as Cagliari's top scorer with five goals — the lowest tally by a Cagliari top scorer in the club's Serie A history. He had arrived on a free transfer in 2022, wearing number 27, and played a part in the side's promotion to Serie A through the play-offs in 2023.
He joined Benevento in January 2017 for €550,000 from Novara, and that same season the club went up to Serie A via the play-offs. In 2019–20 Benevento won the Serie B title.
The route there was less direct. Viola came through Polisportiva Taurianovese as a youth player, moved to Reggina's academy in 2006 and was promoted to the senior squad, where he stayed until 2012. In January 2012 Palermo paid €1.8 million for a co-ownership share, but he remained on loan at Reggina until the end of the season. The co-ownership lapsed, and he signed for Ternana in 2013, spending two seasons there before two more at Novara.
A single season at Bologna followed in 2021–22, again on a free transfer. In November 2025 he left Cagliari for Ravenna FC , signing until 2027 and taking the number 10 shirt.
Viola represented Italy at under-16, under-17, under-18 and under-19 level. He has not been capped by the senior national side.
