Ryan Nils Johansson

Ryan Nils Johansson's path into international football ran through a legal dispute rather than a straightforward call-up. Born in Luxembourg City, he qualified at various age groups for Sweden and Ireland. He pursued the Irish route, taking his case to FIFA over his eligibility, and was naturalised as an Irish citizen in May 2021, having already represented Ireland at Under-19 and Under-21 level. He has not yet earned a senior cap.

His club career began in Luxembourg with Racing Union, before a move to Metz and then Bayern Munich took him into the German game as a teenager. He was registered with Bayern's squad during the 2019-20 season, when the club won the Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal and the Champions League, though his involvement was limited to pre-season friendlies rather than competitive matches.

Johansson left Bayern for Sevilla Atlético on a free transfer, spending three years with the Spanish club's reserve side and fitting in a loan spell at Fortuna Sittard along the way. A return to Germany followed, first with SC Freiburg's second team, then with SV Wehen Wiesbaden, where he wore the number 20 shirt and established himself on the left wing, contributing five goals and five assists in 72 competitive appearances. When his contract at Wiesbaden was not renewed, he moved on a free transfer to SC Preußen Münster.
