Rodrigo Formento

Rodrigo Formento's route to Ecuador's top flight ran through a series of loans that rarely stayed put for long. Uruguayan by birth, he came through at Cerro, making his professional debut in April 2019 and going on to make 59 appearances for the club over the following two seasons.

What followed was a stretch of moves that took him well outside Uruguay. A loan to Progreso in 2021 gave him regular football, and a subsequent loan spell in Chile with Coquimbo Unido saw him installed as the club's first-choice goalkeeper for the 2022 season, playing 22 matches. Spells with River Plate (Uruguay) and Cerro Largo followed, the latter bringing 24 appearances in 2024.

In January 2025 Formento joined Mushuc Runa as a free agent. He has been a fixture in goal since.

His only representative football has come at youth level. Formento was capped twice by Uruguay's Olympic squad, debuting in a January 2020 friendly against Liga MX Premier that finished goalless. He was part of the squad at the CONMEBOL Olympic qualifying tournament in Colombia that year, where Uruguay finished third. A call-up to the senior national team has yet to come.
