About the player
At AZ in 2015/16 he scored 27 goals in 34 matches, finishing as the league's top scorer. He became the first player in 52 years to score more than 20 goals in the second half of an Eredivisie season , and the youngest to pass 25 league goals since Ronaldo. That season earned him the Johan Cruyff Trophy as the Netherlands' talent of the year and, soon after, a move to Tottenham Hotspur for around £17 million — the biggest transfer of his career.
At Antwerp, Janssen won the Belgian league and cup double in his first season, scoring the opening goal in the cup final against Mechelen, a 2-0 win.
He has also worn the Netherlands shirt, making his debut against France in March 2016 and scoring on his second appearance days later against England, also setting up a goal in that match. He went on to earn 22 caps and 7 goals for the national side, including two group-stage appearances at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, before stepping away from the squad in March 2023.
