ASA Aarhus

Aarhus has a ring road called the Ringgaden, and everything inside it is the old city. That is where ASA sits, and where the nickname comes from: the club in the centre, close enough to the middle of Denmark's second city that the address does most of the explaining.

The club grew out of a political argument rather than a sporting one. The Social Democrats had been running a campaign in the newspaper Demokraten for a month, pressing the case that sport belonged to working people and not only to the clubs that could afford it. When the founding meeting was finally held in 1933, around 200 people turned up. The name they settled on said it plainly — Arbejder Sport Aarhus, workers' sport. The same evening produced two more organisations, one for young people's sport and one for workers' education.

Training started the following week. There was no ground, so they used a path between Aarhus Hospital and the Northern Cemetery, which is a fair indication of what the club had at its disposal in its first month.

Football is one branch of a wider ASA sports club. The men's side plays in the Denmark Series, the fifth tier, having climbed in 2019 and again in 2021, then finished second in group 2 in 2025/26 to go up once more. Their best day came in 2023/24, when the cup run reached the quarter-finals and Brøndby ended it 2-0.

The women's team went one better in the same period. ASA W won the B-Liga in 2025, the second division of the Danish women's game, and did what the men have been doing in instalments — finished top.

Home is the Holdsport Arena, also known as Arena Vest Aarhus. The shirts, shorts and socks are red. The ground holds 1,000.
