Bolivia Women

Five-eleven place in the 1995 Sudamericano is still the closest Bolivia's women have come to a top-four finish, and that came in their very first tournament, played in Brazil the same year. Every edition since has ended the same way: they are the only side never to reach the final four, a distinction Wikipedia's own record of the Copa América Femenina spells out without softening it.

They lost their debut 11-0 to Chile in Uberlândia, a scoreline that set the tone for what followed rather than an aberration.

What they do have is altitude. La Paz sits the national side at the Estadio Hernando Siles, close to 3,637 metres above sea level. Visiting teams arrive short of breath before the game has started, and it is one of the few edges La Verde can claim on paper. Recent Liga de Naciones Femenina fixtures have shifted instead to El Alto's municipal stadium, an even higher ground near the capital, keeping that advantage in the family rather than trading it away.

The federation behind them, the FBF, dates back a century to 1925 and has run the men's side through FIFA and CONMEBOL membership since 1926. For now the target stays modest and unmet: a first appearance in a Copa América Femenina semi-final, the one line on the continental record that has never had Bolivia's name against it.
