Caerau (Ely)

Caerau (Ely) A.F.C. formed in 1955, and the shirts came before almost anything else did: Ron Miller of Cross Bros. AFC handed the new side a set of red kit. The club started out in the Cardiff Combination League and played its early matches at Ely Racecourse.
The climb ran through the local leagues for decades. Caerau (Ely) took the Senior League four times in the 1990s and collected Cardiff Combination Cup and league titles through the 1970s and 1980s. Promotion into the Welsh League came in 1998, settled by a 1-0 play-off win over Dinas Powys.
Promotion to Welsh League Division One followed in 2009/10, a fifth-place finish in 2010/11 stood as the club's best league position at the time, and in 2014/15 Caerau (Ely) won Division One outright. The next step up arrived in 2022/23, when the club topped Ardal South West and earned a place in Cymru South, the second tier of the Welsh pyramid.
