Four amateur sides from the same corner of Concepción — Galvarino, Liverpool, Juvenil Unido and Santa Fe among them — merged in 1966, and the new outfit kept the word "Unido" in its name for two years before dropping it in 1968. It settled at Collao, the ground now known as Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo, and took the lila and white.

The Segunda División title in 1967, the Torneo Provincial in 1968 and again in 1970, the Copa Francisco Candelori that same year. A run to the Copa Chile final in 2010 ended on penalties against Municipal Iquique.

Víctor Estay scored more goals for the club than anyone else, 88 of them, and Patricio Almendra pulled on the shirt more often than any teammate, 269 appearances. Against Fernández Vial, the derby carries its own name, the Clásico Penquista.

In 2016 the ANFP stripped the club of its licence, and Concepción dropped out of professional football altogether, forced to start again in Tercera B.
