CTE Colatina

Colatina sits on the banks of the Rio Doce, in the interior of Espírito Santo. Football there took organised shape on 5 June 1998, when a former player, Edmílson Gominis Pimenta — known as Edmílson Ratinho — founded the club that carries a version of his own name: Centro de Treinamento Edmílson Colatina.

The team plays in blue and white, which earned it the nickname Azulão, and settled at the Estádio Justiniano de Mello e Silva, a ground that holds 2,600. Its early seasons produced the closest thing to a golden run the club has had. Promotion came in 2002 with the Série B title of the Campeonato Capixaba, and the following year CTE Colatina reached the final of the state's top flight, finishing runner-up. In 2004 it won the Torneio Início and rode that form into its first Copa do Brasil, going out in the first round to Vitória, of Bahia.

What followed was less settled. In 2008 the club shifted its home matches to Marilândia and dropped into the second division under an unofficial local name; in July 2011 it rebranded formally as Espírito Santo Sociedade Esportiva. Under that name it withdrew from the Série B in 2016, five rounds in, and was banned from competition for three years. The club returned to the professional game in 2019, restored to its old identity as CTE Colatina, reached the top division again in 2022, and came straight back down. Between those setbacks sat the Troféu Rio Doce of 2021, won on aggregate against Forte Rio Bananal after a 2-1 defeat away and a 2-2 draw at home.

None of that carries the edge of the fixture against Sport Colatinense, the other club from the same town. They call it the Derby Colatinense, or simply the Clássico de Colatina.
