GEL

The 2008 Campeonato Capixaba Série B runner-up spot sent the club from the Serra district up into Espírito Santo's top flight for 2009, and the promotion held for exactly one season before GEL dropped back down to the second tier.

The club carries the name of its neighbourhood, Laranjeiras, and has stayed there since 14 May 1980, playing home matches at the Estádio Municipal Roberto Siqueira Costa, which holds 2,000. In 2007 it travelled to Portugal for a run of friendlies against Belenenses, Vitória de Setúbal, Naval and Estoril-Praia.

The lower divisions have not always been kind to it. A season went unplayed in 2017, and in 2019 GEL was withdrawn from the Série B altogether over unpaid debts, drawing a two-year ban from the state federation. It came back once the ban lifted, working through the Copa Espírito Santo and the regional Série B, currently competing in the 2026 edition of the latter.

The player most associated with the club is a forward who came through its ranks under the name Elvis Presley — not the singer. He had passed through Paysandu's academy before returning to GEL, never broke into a bigger club, and was shot dead in 2013 at the age of 20.
